Written and additional notes:
Some other reasons why I wanted to do a solo project is the freedom to express exactly what I wanted and be able to work every step of the way. It was also a great way to show how much I've learnt and it was one of my goals to create a film of my own when I started this course.
In order to gain some inspirations, I was watching many short animations around a similar time scale to get a gist on how much I include in such a short amount of time.
Next, I started creating mindmaps along those lines. Developing ideas around life situations. Finally, I was drawn to the idea value in life.
The title I went with was the word 'Lag'. For example, when there's a lag in a film or game there is a time skip which leads you wondering what in-between just like how the character sees the time flying by so rapidly.
To move on I developed a mood board to set down the mood and character of the film.
As for the art style, I aim to achieve the clean line art like the on the left called In-between. I also want to combine some abstract elements similar to the gif on the right such as exaggerated facial expression and body language but more on a subtler side to represent her anxiety.
For the character and setting at this stage, I haven't set anything in stone as it's still an ongoing process. At the moment I've just started collecting some images for the reference and the feel of the whole film that I'm trying to express. I just went ahead and created some first version of the designs.
In terms of the design, the character isn't based on any particular person. Shes just a relatable average woman in her mid-20s struggling with her priorities. Her design nothing striking at the moment. You have her fringe above her eyes to show that she can't see things right from her perspective. The overall look is supposed to be opposite of being bright.
As for her surrounding, she lives in a very compacted small apartment because she's living along. She's supposed to be very independent which she is not.
I've already been looking into different directors in animation and film. However, I still haven't determined any specific directors style that I want to replicate. It's more of a combination of different camera techniques that I like so I planned on looking more in-depth in that.
Title: *Software (not softwares)
The software that I'll be using for this project.
To organise everything and to manage my time well. I created this schedule that I' am working with at this moment. There possibly be some changes made down the line.
To finalise this presentation my plan for this week is to start focusing on my script and storyboard.
